Technical and Regulatory News from DNV GL: Implications for Offshore Units

Even though IMO has included a transitional period in the BWMC, eventually, ballast water must be managed in a way that any ballast water discharged in other waters than where it was loaded, is made harmless related to invasive species.

In order to be prepared for September 8, 2017 when the convention enters into force, DNV GL recommends owners/managers of offshore units the following:

– Clarify whether your offshore unit needs a BWM Certificate.

– Obtain a BWM Certificate (if needed) by 8 September 2017.

– Plan for BW Treatment according to Reg. D-2 by the time the IOPP renewal survey is completed.
